The Acid-Alkaline Ratio

The Acid-Alkaline Ratio

Your body is truly an amazing machine working 24/7 running complex processes, without you even having to think about. One of the many things your body takes care of is maintaining a precise balance of your acid/alkaline ratio. The acidic level in your body is measured by its pH level, being your ideal pH level around 7.3 and 7.45, which is slightly alkaline. Different parts of the body, however, have different pH levels. For instance, your stomach needs to be highly acidic to digest food, whereas your blood needs to stay slightly alkaline.⁣ The western hemisphere diet, rich in processed foods, sugar, dairy, refined grains, animal protein and alcohol is highly acidic. This type of diet can have profound damaging effects in your cells, tissues, skin, and your gut microflora.⁣ Whether a food has an acidic or alkaline effect in the body has little to do with that food’s pH before it is digested. Instead, it depends on whether acidic or alkaline byproducts are created once it is digested and processed by your body (Healthyline.com). ⁣ This is why, there is a popular belief that drinking water with lemon in the morning, can have an alkalinizing effect in your body, although this belief has not been scientifically proved.⁣ What has been shown is that shifting your diet to one rich in alkalinizing food, mainly Fruits and Vegetables, which are high in alkaline nutrients such as potassium, calcium and magnesium, have great benefits to your overall health and beauty. ⁣ And regardless of whether or not lemons have an alkalinizing effect in your body, they are an excellent source of vitamin C and are packed with other vitamins and minerals that promote detoxification, support weight loss, boost immunity and reduce inflammation.
