Ginger (Zingibre officianle) is a versatile and tasty herb that is used for both, its culinary and medicinal properties. In Ayurveda (an ancient system of medicine with historical roots in the Indian subcontinent), Ginger is known as the “universal remedy” due to its many benefits for the body. Ginger has warming, stimulating and antispasmodic properties. Fresh ginger root tea is used treat nausea, stomach cramps, and to aid digestion. Ginger also boosts immunity, promotes cell growth and is often used during pregnancy for morning sickness, and to treat colds and sore throats. To make ginger tea, simmer 1-2 teaspoons of freshly grated ginger root for a few minutes. You can add lemon and honey, or for a nice twist, add some peppermint. You can sip ginger tea throughout the day, with meals or after meals.
